Macroalgae, also referred to as “seaweed,” are macroscopic and multicellular algae that generally grow on relatively shallow, rocky substrata. They typically belong to one of several groups of multicellular algae, including red algae, green algae, and brown algae. Unlike seagrass, macroalgae have no roots, stems, leaves, or vascular tissues.
